Following a landmark High Court of Justice ruling in 1999, the use of torture or any forms of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment is prohibited in interrogations.

Uzbekistan provided guarantees regarding the respect of the basic rights and freedoms of the detainees, and that the latter would not be subjected to torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.
