1. The Fourth General Meeting of the United Nations system and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and its associated institutions was convened at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana on 25 and 26 January 2007.

22. Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 59/138, the Department of Political Affairs has started consultations with the secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the holding of the Fourth General meeting between representatives of CARICOM and its associated institutions and the United Nations system.

40. The Department of Political Affairs was instrumental in preparing and organizing the United Nations system's participation in the Fourth General meeting of representatives of the United Nations and of CARICOM and its associated institutions, at Turkeyen, Guyana, in January 2007.

Follow-up activities of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to the Programme of Action have included the preparation of an Industrial Plan of Action highlighting the central issues of industrial development in the LDCs and of an Industrial Action Programme for the LDCs, both adopted by the Fourth General Conference of UNIDO in November 1991.

I have the honour to transmit to you herewith the text of the joint statement adopted by the participants in the Fourth General Meeting of the United Nations system and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and its associated institutions, which was held at CARICOM headquarters in Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana, on 25 and 26 January 2007 (see annex).

2. The Directorate-General of Statistics and National Accounts has data disaggregated by sex in socioeconomic domains, collected from multiple indicator cluster surveys, standard questionnaires on basic well-being indicators, demographic and health surveys, and the Fourth General Population and Housing Census.

However, at the Fourth General meeting of the organization in October 2005, two amendments were made to the Centre's charter, namely: to article 7, on the geographical area of activity, " the research unit will conduct its activities on an international scale " ; and to article 10, in which the aims of item 12 were added to include " the promotion of human rights " .
