While recognizing that any formal definition of criteria for new permanent members could not be easily formulated, we consider that new members of this category should be selected from among States that exert a major influence in world affairs and are in a position to make an essential contribution to the maintenance of international peace and security.

2. UNICEF is governed by a 36-member Executive Board, members of which are elected each year by the Economic and Social Council from among States Members of the United Nations representing all regions of the world.

In accordance with the provisions of annex I to General Assembly resolution 48/162, the Executive Board consists of 36 members, to be elected by the Council from among States Members of the United Nations or members of specialized agencies or of the International Atomic Energy Agency, subject to the following conditions:

At its substantive session of 2002, the Economic and Social Council considered this request, and by its resolution 2002/24 of 24 July 2002, authorized the President of the Council to appoint from among States members of the Council, in consultation with the chairmen of the regional groups, the members of the Committee on Negotiations with Intergovernmental Agencies.

1. The Committee for the United Nations Population Award is composed of 10 members elected from among States Members of the United Nations with due regard to equitable geographical representation and the need to include those Member States that have made contributions towards the Award.

21. The Conference elected Marcos Lourenço de Almeida (Brazil), Sainivalati S. Navoti (Fiji), Famoudou Magassouba (Guinea), Dmitry Gonchar (Russian Federation) and Fernando Curcio Ruigómez (Spain) as Vice-Presidents from among States parties.

In accordance with its decision 1995/223, the Economic and Social Council is to elect, from among States Members of the United Nations and observer States, five members of the Programme Coordinating Board for a three-year term beginning on 1 January 2015 to fill the vacancies that will occur on 31 December 2014 upon the expiration of the terms of the following members: Australia, Brazil, Congo, Denmark and Iran (Islamic Republic of).
