II. Completion of relocation of the Regional Centre from New York to Kathmandu

My delegation welcomes the relocation of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific from New York to Kathmandu and its becoming operational on 18 August 2008.
ويرحب وفد بلادي بنقل مركز الأمم المتحدة الإقليمي للسلام ونزع السلاح في آسيا والمحيط الهادئ من نيويورك إلى كاتماندو. ويباشر هذا المركز أعماله منذ 18 آب/أغسطس 2008.

With the early retirement of the Director of the Centre in March 2008, the Regional Disarmament Branch of the Office for Disarmament Affairs assumed responsibilities of the Centre's daily operation and engaged in intensive preparations for its relocation in order to ensure the continuity and smooth transition of the Centre's operation from New York to Kathmandu.

After its relocation from New York to Kathmandu in 2008, the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific has been steadily increasing its collaboration with Member States in the region in the various aspects of peace and disarmament, particularly in the fields of small arms and light weapons, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
بعد نقل مركز الأمم المتحدة الإقليمي للسلام ونزع السلاح في آسيا ومنطقة المحيط الهادي من نيويورك إلى كاتماندو عام 2008، زاد تعاونه بشكل مضطرد مع الدول الأعضاء في المنطقة في الميادين المختلفة المتعلقة بالسلام ونزع السلاح، لا سيما في مجال الأسلحة الصغيرة والأسلحة الخفيفة ونزع السلاح النووي وعدم الانتشار.
