Welcome to everybody, and a special welcome to our new colleague from Bulgaria, Ambassador Gancho Ganev, who has just arrived and assumed his new post after a very long and very distinguished career in the Bulgarian foreign service, coming straight from the Cabinet of the Minister.

Furthermore, in accordance with the established practice, the next review conference will be held in 2011 and preparations are currently under way under the auspices of Ambassador Gancho Ganev of Bulgaria, who is the Chairperson-designate of the 2010 Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention.

Given the nature of today's discussions, I would like to thank the secretariat of the Conference on Disarmament and the current President, Ambassador Gancho Ganev, for giving us the opportunity to discuss important aspects of the work of the Conference on Disarmament and the high-level meeting scheduled to be held in New York.

11. At its first plenary meeting, on 14 November 2011, the Conference confirmed the nomination of Ambassador Gancho Ganev of Bulgaria as President of the Fourth Review Conference.

The meetings were chaired by the President-designate of the Fourth Review Conference, Ambassador Gancho Ganev of Bulgaria, and considered the issues of universality; compliance; the Draft Final Document of the Fourth Review Conference; status and operation, as well as new and pending issues.
