Noting the progress made by the Committee through its Working Group in preparing a report for submission to the General Assembly for the review, in accordance with paragraph 31 of Assembly resolution 55/122,
وإذ تلاحظ التقدم الذي أحرزته اللجنة من خلال فريقها العامل في إعداد تقرير ليقدمه إلى الجمعية العامة لكي تستعرضه وفقا للفقرة 31 من قرار الجمعية 55/122،

In this regard, we recall the recent special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, and we are pleased that all participants in the session have reaffirmed their commitment to implement the Barbados Programme of Action.
وفي هذا الصدد، نشير إلى الدورة الاستثنائية اﻷخيرة للجمعية العامة لاستعراض وتقييم تنفيذ برنامج العمل للتنمية المستدامة للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية، ونشعر بالارتياح ﻷن جميع المشاركين في الدورة أكدوا من جديد التزامهم بتنفيذ برنامج عمل بربادوس.

The special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States had represented a watershed, since it had focused international attention on the special circumstances of small island developing States and had helped to mobilize support.

Ms. Núñez Mordoche (Cuba) said that delegates to the recent special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States had expressed concern at the lack of progress achieved in that regard.

Acting as the preparatory committee for the special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development, the Commission drafted proposals for the further implementation of the Programme of Action (E/CN.9/1999/PC/4).
٢٤ - وصاغت اللجنة، بوصفها اللجنة التحضيرية للدورة الاستثنائية للجمعية العامة لاستعراض وتقييم تنفيـذ برنامج عمل المؤتمــر الدولي للسكان والتنميــة، مقترحات لمواصلــة تنفيذ برنامج العمـــل (E/CN.9/1999/PC/4).

2. In addition to the assistance it had provided in organizing the major global conferences of the United Nations and its planned participation in the special session of the General Assembly for the review of the questions of environment and development, in 1997, the University had dealt extensively with the issues considered in the Second and Third Committees, and in the Economic and Social Council and its subsidiary bodies.
٢ - وقال إنه باﻹضافة الى المساعدة التي قدمتها الجامعة في تنظيم مؤتمرات اﻷمم المتحدة العالمية الرئيسية ومشاركتها المزمعة في الدورة الاستثنائية للجمعية العامة لاستعراض مسائل البيئة والتنمية، في عام ١٩٩٧، بحثت الجامعة بإسهاب القضايا المنظور فيها في اللجنتين الثانية والثالثة، وفي المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي وأجهزته الفرعية.

45. Turkey's Habitat Forum (an enlarged version of the national preparatory committee for the Habitat II conference) had already begun preparing for the special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Habitat Agenda.
45 - وواصل حديثه قائلا إن محفل " الموئل " في تركيا (وهو محفل موسَّع على نمط اللجنة التحضيرية الوطنية لمؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للمستوطنات البشرية (الموئل الثاني)) قد بدأ بالفعل في الإعداد لعقد الدورة الاستثنائية للجمعية العامة لاستعراض وتقييم تنفيذ جدول أعمال " الموئل " .

77. The intergovernmental process leading to the year 2000, when the special session of the General Assembly for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit on Social Development and to consider further actions and initiatives will take place, can be found in the annex to the present report.
