Referring to the Declaration on the Question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) adopted by the General Assembly of OAS, the Permanent Observer stated that:

In June 2000, combined advocacy by the Special Representative, the Secretary General of OAS and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada resulted in the General Assembly of OAS adopting a resolution on children and armed conflicts, which called on all parties to armed conflicts to respect international humanitarian law concerning children and support rehabilitation programmes.

The General Assembly of OAS, in its resolution AG/RES. 2416 (XXXVIII-O/08), urged member States to punish those found guilty of violating, in armed conflict and other situations of armed violence, provisions of international human rights law and/or international humanitarian law, within their respective spheres of application, which protect persons from disappearances, in particular, forced disappearances.
