They also help to achieve the objectives laid down in General Assembly resolution 46/37 B on reducing the considerable quantities of existing armaments in the subregion, especially illicit traffic in arms, because of the threat they present to peace, stability and development in our countries.
كما أنها تساعد في تحقيق اﻷهداف الواردة في قرار الجمعية العامة ٤٦/٣٧ باء بشأن تخفيض الكميات الكبيرة من اﻷسلحة الموجودة في المنطقة الفرعية وبصفة خاصة الاتجار غير المشروع باﻷسلحة نظرا للتهديد الذي تفرضه هذه اﻷسلحة على السلم والاستقرار والتنمية في بلداننا.

In relation to the topic of disarmament, significant steps have recently been taken. Some prominent ones have been the adoption of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, the approval of a Convention prohibiting anti-personnel mines, and the forthcoming conclusion of an inter-American convention against the illicit traffic in arms, munitions and explosives.
