Experts and specialists in the field of maternal and child health consider that the average period when infants are fed exclusively on breast milk, i.e. 2.2 months, is undesirably short, and that there is a need for a more intensive effort on the part of community organizations and Government agencies to make mothers and those around them aware of the importance of breastfeeding and its beneficial effects on the health of both mother and child.
