The Conference further reaffirms that all nuclear weapons must be eliminated from the face of the earth in the spirit of the preamble of the Treaty.]* The Conference recalls that under the provisions of article VI each of the parties undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to:

The States parties further undertook to fulfil with determination the NPT's nuclear disarmament undertakings, while the nuclear-weapon States also reaffirmed their commitment to negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to nuclear disarmament.
وقد تعهدت الدول اﻷطراف أيضا بالوفاء بعزم بالتزامات نزع السلاح النووي الواردة في معاهدة عدم الانتشار، بينما أكدت من جديد أيضا الدول الحائزة لﻷسلحة النووية التزامها بالتفاوض بحسن نية حول التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بنزع السلاح النووي.

Both Presidents appealed to our Conference to make the Treaty permanent and reaffirmed their countries' commitments under article VI of the Treaty to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to nuclear disarmament, which continues to remain their ultimate goal.

In conclusion, the paper took note with appreciation of the reaffirmation at the Conference on Disarmament on 6 April 1995 by France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States of their commitments to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to nuclear disarmament.

16. In that regard, the nuclear-weapon States will need to reaffirm their commitment to resolute action and their firm will to meet their obligations under the Treaty and, in particular, their obligation under article VI to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race and to disarmament.

فبموجب تلك المادة وكي نستشهد بها بشكل دقيق: " تتعهد كل دولة من الدول اﻷطراف في المعاهدة بمواصلة إجراء المفاوضات اللازمة بحسن نية عن التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب، وبنزع السلاح النووي، وعن معاهدة بشأن نزع السلاح العام الكامل في ظل مراقبة دولية شديدة فعالة " .

8. Article VI of the Treaty is clear concerning the achievement of nuclear disarmament, specifying that " Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control " .
8 - وتتسم المادة السادسة من المعاهدة بوضوحها فيما يتعلق ببلوغ هدف نزع السلاح حيث أنها تنص على أن ' ' تتعهد كل دولة من الدول الأطراف بمواصلة إجراء المفاوضات اللازمة بحسن نية عن التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي، وعن معاهدة بشأن نزع السلاح العام الكامل في ظل مراقبة دولية صارمة وفعالة``.

It is an obligation, not a choice, which arises from article VI of the Treaty, under which all States parties undertook to " pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament " .
