II. Economic situation in the affected States

However, the devastation caused by these two hurricanes, particularly by Mitch, has resulted in unprecedented loss of life, homes, crops and businesses, and has reversed economic development in the affected States by many years.

5. Since the adoption of General Assembly resolution 51/45 L, the Secretary-General has not received any specific request for United Nations assistance to curb the illicit circulation of small arms and to collect such arms in the affected States.
٥ - ومنذ صدور قرار الجمعية العامة ٥١/٤٥ لام، لم يتلق اﻷمين العام أي طلب محدد للمساعدة من اﻷمم المتحدة على كبح التداول غير المشروع لﻷسلحة الصغيرة وجمع هذه اﻷسلحة في الدول المتأثرة.
