17. As set out in the report of the Secretary-General on an agenda for development (A/49/665, paras. 66-72), the assets and strengths of the United Nations system in the area of operational activities are, inter alia:

Under the overall guidance of the General Assembly, periodic review of policies adopted in the area of operational activities should be undertaken at the operational activities segment of the Economic and Social Council to ensure the coherence and consistency of policies with the policy guidelines established by the General Assembly in the triennial comprehensive policy review.
