92. In 2011, the secretariat also facilitated the participation of 96 STIs in the COP (31 per cent of which were funded) and of 74 STIs in the intersessional sessions of the subsidiary bodies (39 per cent of which funded).

As proposed by the CCD COP 1, Cameroon plans to exploit the opportunity offered to consult its neighbours which are members of CEMAC and which are often represented in the COP of the CCD to encourage the integration of the desertification control dimension in the subregional programmes of that institution, so as to enable the States to benefit from the advantages of the member States.

"
4- وجاء في التوصية رقم 9 الواردة في تقرير وحدة التفتيش المشتركة أن الأمين التنفيذي ينبغي أن يقترح على سبيل الأولوية " إجراءات منقحة لمشاركة المنظمات غير الحكومية في مؤتمر الأطراف والأنشطة الأخرى، بما في ذلك معايير واضحة وآلية لضمان التوازن بين المشاركين من مختلف المناطق " ().

Given that a considerable number of the 860 CSOs accredited to the COP base their work on professional expertise which is quite often volunteer or non-career-oriented, these organizations are seldom able to financially support their participation in the COP and other official UNCCD meetings, to which however they can greatly contribute.

The main features of the proposed criteria include geographical balance, with particular attention to Africa; a turnover regime (allowing all accredited organizations, within a regular time frame, to participate in the COP and the meetings of its subsidiary bodies while ensuring consistency of CSO inputs to the process); representation of networks vis-à-vis individual organisations; experience/expertise balance; and gender balance.
