45. The process of renewal and reform of the United Nations could not be successful without effective strengthening of the Organization’s capacity in the field of the maintenance of international peace and security.

As we approach the sixtieth anniversary of the United Nations, the membership as a whole shares a sense of urgency in promoting the Organization's effectiveness in all areas, particularly in the field of the maintenance of international peace and security.
ومع اقتراب حلول الذكرى السنوية الستين لإنشاء الأمم المتحدة، يخامر الأعضاء كافة شعور ملح بضرورة زيادة فعالية المنظمة في جميع المجالات، ولاسيما في مجال صون السلم والأمن الدوليين.

As is evident in many areas of the world where actual or potential conflicts prevail, regional arrangements and organizations can render invaluable assistance to and effectively cooperate with the United Nations in the field of the maintenance of international peace and security, including peaceful settlement of disputes.
٣ - كما هو واضح في مناطق كثيرة من العالم، حيث تسود النزاعات الفعلية والمحتملة، من الممكن أن تقدم التنظيمات والمنظمات الاقليمية مساعدة قﱢيمة الى اﻷمم المتحدة، وأن تتعاون معها، في مجال صون السلم واﻷمن الدوليين، بما في ذلك تسوية المنازعات بالوسائل السلمية.

In that connection, it was essential for all States to actively participate in the work of the Special Committee, since the strengthening of the role of the Organization would help to redress the current imbalance between the Security Council and the General Assembly in the field of the maintenance of international peace and security.
وأضاف أن مما له أهمية أساسية، في هذا الخصوص، أن تشارك جميع الدول بجدية في أعمال اللجنة الخاصة، نظرا إلى أن تعزيز دور المنظمة يساعد على وضع حد لاختلال التوازن الحالي فيما بين مجلس الأمن والجمعية العامة في مجال صون السلم والأمن الدوليين.

14. Mr. SHAH (Nepal) said that a consensus had emerged on the need to restructure the United Nations in order to enhance its efficiency, particularly in the field of the maintenance of international peace and security.
