Accordingly, any decision regarding a change in the membership of the Committee on Relations with the Host Country was a matter, in the first place, for Member States and the General Assembly and should be taken in accordance with the rules of procedure of the General Assembly.

Initially, the Government had believed that the implementation of the Convention should be carried out by women, and at first had included only two men in the membership of the Committee.

2. At its 59th meeting, on 8 May 2000, the Fifth Committee considered a note by the Secretary-General (A/54/102/Add.1) concerning a vacancy in the membership of the Committee on Contributions as a result of the resignation of David Etuket (Uganda).

In the light of that, I should like to suggest that the General Assembly be informed about the aforementioned change in the membership of the Committee at a suitable time.

Like the Observer for Palestine, he hoped that the current session of the General Assembly would see a much needed expansion in the membership of the Committee.
