In February 2001, the Office carried out an inspection of the programme management and administrative practices in the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention.

During the reporting period, OIOS carried out a review of programme management and administrative practices in the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention in Vienna, which included following up on recommendations of earlier in-depth evaluations as well as a 1997 review of programme management in the then Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Division.

The Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Serv-ices introduced the annual report of that Office (A/56/381) and the reports on the inspection of programme management and administrative practices in the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention (A/56/83) and on the audit of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees operations in Albania (A/56/128).

Work is in progress to adjust the organizational framework of the ODCCP in line with the OIOS recommendations contained in the report on the inspection of programme management and administrative practices in the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention (A/56/83).

Pursuant to General Assembly resolutions 48/218 B of 29 July 1994 and 54/244 of 23 December 1999, the Secretary-General has the honour to transmit, for the attention of the General Assembly, the attached report, conveyed to him by the Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services, on the inspection of programme management and administrative practices in the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention.
