This issue has been raised in the Legal Subcommittee, but no agreement has been reached to consider it substantively, as some delegations are of the opinion that it would be premature to do so until the investigation and discussion of all the scientific and technical aspects of space debris currently under way in the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee were finalized.

The Subcommittee noted that the subject of the use of nuclear power sources in outer space had been under consideration in the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee at its thirtieth session in 1993, and that the relevant parts of the report of that Subcommittee were contained in document A/AC.105/543, chapter IV and annex III.
٢٦ - وأشارت اللجنة الفرعية إلى أن مسألة استخدام مصادر الطاقة النووية في الفضاء الخارجي كانت قيد النظر في اللجنة الفرعية العلمية والتقنية في دورتها الثلاثين في عام ١٩٩٣، وأن اﻷجزاء المتصلة بتقرير تلك اللجنة الفرعية قد وردت في الوثيقة A/AC.105/543، الفصل الرابع، المرفق الثالث.

Some delegations expressed the view that it was premature for the Legal Subcommittee to consider legal aspects of space debris in view of the multi-year work plan on space debris mitigation guidelines being carried out in the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee.
