It should be recalled that in my letter of 10 July 2006 to the President of the Security Council (S/2006/510), I indicated that, unless there was an objection from the Council, funds in the amount of $187 million would be held in the United Nations Iraq Account as a reserve for any unanticipated claims from suppliers.

1. As I had indicated in the annex of my letter of 19 December 2005 (S/2005/807), funding was retained in the United Nations Iraq Account for 524 letters of credit that were reported by BNP Paribas (the Bank) as open as of 30 November 2005.
1 - كما بيَّنت في مرفق رسالتي المؤرخة 19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2005 (S/2005/807) خصصت في حساب الأمم المتحدة الخاص بالعراق الأموال اللازمة لتغطية 524 خطاب اعتماد أعلن مصرف BNP Paribas (المصرف) أنها مفتوحة اعتبارا من 31 تموز/يوليه 2005.

17. Iraq expressed the view that, with the termination of the operations of the programme by 31 December 2007, steps should be taken to transfer to the Development Fund for Iraq all surplus funds in the United Nations Iraq Account at the earliest possible time.

18. Pursuant to Security Council resolution 1483 (2003), it was established that unencumbered funds in the United Nations Iraq Account would be transferred to the Development Fund for Iraq.
