In his continuing effort to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, the Special Rapporteur visited Thailand in December 1996 to assess the situation of the displaced persons from Myanmar living in refugee camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border.
٨ - وزار المقرر الخاص تايلند في كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ٦٩٩١ لتقييم حالة المشردين من ميانمار الذين يعيشون في مخيمات اللاجئين على طول الحدود الفاصلة بين تايلند وميانمار، وذلك في إطار ما يبذله من جهد متواصل للحصول على أدق وأحدث المعلومات عن حالة حقوق اﻹنسان في ميانمار.

Both in Geneva on that occasion and later in New York and Washington D.C., the Special Rapporteur met with representatives of Myanmar and other Member States, non-governmental organizations and private individuals who shared their views and information on the situation of human rights in Myanmar.

At its fiftieth session, in 1994, the Commission on Human Rights invited its Chairman to appoint a Special Rapporteur mandated to establish direct contact with the authorities and the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to gather information on the situation of human rights there, including information supplied by non-governmental organizations.

7. In his continuing effort to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information on the situation of human rights in Iraq, the Special Rapporteur sent a team of two human rights officers to Jordan and Kuwait in January 1997 to receive testimonies and other information from refugees and other persons of interest arriving from Iraq and follow up on the question of missing Kuwaitis.
٧ - وقد أرسل المقرر الخاص، ضمن جهوده المتواصلة للحصول على أدق وأحدث المعلومات عن حالة حقوق اﻹنسان في العراق، فريقا مؤلفا من اثنين من مسؤولي حقوق اﻹنسان إلى اﻷردن والكويت في كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٧ لتلقي شهادات ومعلومات أخرى من اللاجئين وغيرهم من اﻷشخاص موضع الاهتمام القادمين من العراق، ولمتابعة مسألة الكويتيين المفقودين.

9. While at United Nations Headquarters, the Special Rapporteur met with several representatives of the Myanmar authorities, other States, NGOs and private individuals who imparted their views and information on the situation of human rights in Myanmar.
9- واجتمع المقرر الخاص، أثناء وجوده في مقر الأمم المتحدة، إلى عدد من ممثلي سلطات ميانمار، والدول الأخرى، والمنظمات غير الحكومية والأفراد العاديين، الذين أبدوا آراءً وقدموا معلومات بشأن حالة حقوق الإنسان في ميانمار.

9. 9- ويعتبر المصدر أن اعتقال واحتجاز السيد يحياوي هو إجراء تعسفي، لأنه كان بسبب ممارسته الحق في حرية التعبير وإبداء آرائه السياسية بصفته محرراً ومديراً لموقع الإنترنت " تونزين " ، الذي ينشر معلومات بشأن حالة حقوق الإنسان في تونس، وبه منبرين للمناقشة الحرة.
