On 26 May 2010, the Council held an open debate on intercultural dialogue for peace and security as an instrument of preventive diplomacy, conflict management and resolution, and peacebuilding.

More specifically, Lebanon suggests that through the thematic meeting it proposes to hold on 26 May the Security Council consider " the intercultural dialogue for peace and Security " as an instrument of:

In this context, the Council has held several briefings and thematic debates, including the debate held at the initiative of Lebanon in May 2010 on " intercultural dialogue for peace and Security " , as an instrument of preventive diplomacy, conflict management and resolution, and peacebuilding.
وفي هذا السياق، عقد المجلس عدة جلسات عامة ومناقشات مواضيعية، بما في ذلك المناقشة التي عقدت، بمبادرة من لبنان، في أيار/مايو 2010 بشأن " الحوار بين الثقافات من أجل السلام والأمن " باعتباره أداة من أدوات الدبلوماسية الوقائية، وإدارة النزاعات وحلها، وبناء السلام.

In this context, the Security Council in fulfilling its role should, more comprehensively, address the need to promote intercultural dialogue for peace and security in order to overcome prejudice and hostile perceptions, to combat ignorance and xenophobia, and to advance a culture of reconciliation based on the values of respect, tolerance, diversity, equality, justice, protection of human rights and rule of law.
وفي هذا السياق، وفي إطار اضطلاع مجلس الأمن بالدور المنوط به، ينبغي للمجلس أن يعالج بصورة أكثر شمولا الحاجة إلى تعزيز الحوار بين الثقافات من أجل السلام والأمن، بغية التغلب على الأحكام المسبقة والانطباعات العدائية، ومكافحة الجهل وكره الأجانب، وإفشاء ثقافة للمصالحة تقوم على قيم الاحترام والتسامح والتنوع والمساواة والعدالة وحماية حقوق الإنسان وسيادة القانون.

On 26 May, the Council held a briefing on the theme " intercultural dialogue for peace and security " under the item entitled " Maintenance of international peace and security " .
في 26 أيار/مايو، عقد مجلس الأمن جلسة إعلامية بشأن موضوع " الحوار بين الثقافات من أجل السلام والأمن " في إطار البند المعنون " صون السلم والأمن الدوليين " .

The briefing was based on a concept paper (S/2010/248, annex), in which intercultural dialogue for peace and security was presented as an instrument of preventive diplomacy, conflict management and resolution, and peacebuilding.
واستندت الجلسة الإعلامية إلى ورقة مفاهيمية (S/2010/248، المرفق) جاء فيها أن الحوار بين الثقافات من أجل السلام والأمن يشكّل أداة للدبلوماسية الوقائية وإدارة النـزاعات وحلها وبناء السلام.
