وقالت إن وفدها يؤيد تنفيذ الإستراتيجية الدولية للحد من الكوارث، والدراسة الاستقصائية العالمية لنظم الإنذار المبكر، وأعربت عن ثقتها في أن السنة الدولية لكوكب الأرض في عام 2008، سوف تحشد جميع المواطنين في مختلف أنحاء العالم لمواجهة التحديات القادمة.

After broad consultation, it was decided in 2002 to seek proclamation of the International Year of Planet Earth by the United Nations General Assembly, with a view to providing the best possible exposure to national Governments.
