The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit for the consideration of the General Assembly his comments on the report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services on the investigation conducted by the Investigations Task Force into fraud and corruption allegations at Pristina Airport.

The Investigations Task Force is currently undertaking investigations into the energy sector, principally involving the Kosovo energy company, Korporata Energjetike e Kosovës (KEK).

1. The report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) on Pristina Airport is based on investigations conducted by the Investigations Task Force into events and management decisions made during the period from 2000 to 2003.

The report highlighted some of the significant matters investigated, notably allegations of sexual exploitation against the civilian and uniformed personnel of MONUC and cases investigated by the anti-corruption Investigations Task Force initiated by OIOS and the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

As recommended by OIOS, the Investigations Task Force was created by UNMIK in October 2003, comprising OIOS regional investigators, fraud experts from the Anti-Fraud Office of the European Union, and the Guardia di Finanza of the Italian police, currently attached to UNMIK as the Financial Investigation Unit.

85. The report of OIOS on the investigation conducted by the Investigations Task Force into fraud and corruption allegations at Pristina Airport (A/60/720) was a consolidated follow-up to the 33 investigation reports issued by the Task Force during the period from August 2004 to June 2005.
