It is assumed that Iraq will remain in need of international assistance in capacity-building, development and reconstruction for the foreseeable future, and there are likely to be continuing demands from the Government of Iraq and the international community for the United Nations to expand its presence and activities in the country, particularly in regard to State- and peacebuilding initiatives.
