22. However, the complex legal and practical problems involved in removing, reprocessing and permanently storing the resultant wastes from the irradiated fuel assemblies used in the reactors and now stored at Tuwaitha and Location B, have so far delayed the removal of this nuclear fuel.
٢٢ - بيد أن إزالة هذا الوقود النووي قد تعطلت حتى اﻵن من جراء المشكلات القانونية والعملية المعقدة التي تنطوي عليها إزالة النفايات الناتجة عن مجمعات الوقود المشعع المستخدم في المفاعلات والمخزن اﻵن في التويثة وفي الموقع باء، وإعادة معالجة هذه النفايات وتخزينها تخزينا دائما.

Thus, although the inspectors could be reasonably confident that there had been no diversion of the discharged irradiated fuel, they could not confirm whether fresh fuel had been removed from the reactor storage area, possibly to begin refuelling the reactor.

As of 31 December 2005, Agency safeguards were applied to 930 facilities, including inter alia 240 power reactor units, 158 research reactors and critical assemblies, 13 enrichment plants, 7 reprocessing plants, some 90 tons of unirradiated plutonium outside reactor cores, 845 tons of plutonium contained in irradiated fuel, and nearly 30 tons of highly enriched uranium.
