1. The CHAIRPERSON said that the Committee had received sad news of the recent death of Julio Prado Vallejo, who had been a member of the Committee from 1977 to 1988 and had served as Chairman from 1986 to 1988.
1- الرئيسة قالت إن اللجنة بلغها مؤخراً نبأ وفاة خوليو برادو فاليخو، الذي كان عضـواً في اللجنـة مـن سنة 1977 إلى سنة 1998، والذي اضطلع برئاسة اللجنة من سنة 1986 إلى سنة 1988.

2. Mr. LALLAH said he remembered having worked on preparing the Committee's rules of procedure with Julio Prado Vallejo, who used to say that he was not greatly interested in procedure and that the only thing of importance to him was the promotion of human rights.

At the fifty-sixth session, the Working Group was composed of Mr. David Kretzmer, Mr. Rajsoomer Lallah, Mrs. Cecilia Medina Quiroga, Mr. Mavrommatis and Mr. Julio Prado Vallejo. It met at United Nations Headquarters from 11 to 15 March 1996 and elected Mr. Mavrommatis as its Chairperson/Rapporteur.

18. We recommend that Mr. Rodolfo Stavenhagen, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples, and Mr. Julio Prado Vallejo, OAS Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, should be invited to participate in the working group as expert observers.
