The Juvenile Welfare Act No. 24 of 1992, as amended by Act No. 26 of 1997, includes the following articles:

30. The Juvenile Welfare Act No. 76 of 1983 includes the following:
30- تضمن قانون رعاية الأحداث رقم 76 لسنة 1983 ما يلي:

The Juvenile Welfare Act No. 76 (1983, amended) does not permit life imprisonment or the death penalty.
حيث أن قانون رعاية الأحداث رقم 76 لسنة 1983 وتعديلاته لم يجز الحكم المؤبد وعقوبة الإعدام.

These measures encompass all juveniles at risk of delinquency, in accordance with the Juvenile Welfare Act.
وتشمل الإجراءات المذكورة أعلاه جميع الأحداث المعرضين للجنوح وفقاً للأحكام القانونية الواردة في قانون رعاية الأحداث.

82. The Iraqi Civil Code defines as a child every human being below the age of 18 years. The Juvenile Welfare Act No. 76 (1983) places children in the following categories, by age group:
82- يعني الطفل في مفهوم القانون المدني العراقي، كل إنسان لم يبلغ سن الثامنة عشرة من العمر، ويفصل قانون رعاية الأحداث المرقم 76 لسنة 1983 عمر الطفل وتسمياته على النحو الآتي:

The juvenile courts have the discretion to use alternatives to detention, depending on the nature and gravity of the offence in the case and how it is defined in the Juvenile Welfare Act.
أما بخصوص تطبيق التدابير البديلة للعقوبات السالبة للحرية فإنها من اختصاص محاكم الأحداث وحسب نوع وجسامه الجرائم المرتكبة من قبل الحدث والمنصوص عليها أصولياً في قانون رعاية الأحداث.

143. In the case of juveniles, the Iraqi Juvenile Welfare Act No. 76 of 1983 provides numerous safeguards for the category of minors, including the following:
143- أما فيما يتعلق بالأحداث فإن قانون رعاية الأحداث العراقي رقم 76 لسنة 1983 قد تضمن العديد من الضمانات المقررة لشريحة الأطفال ومنها:

In that context, the Government has submitted a draft amendment to the Juvenile Welfare Act (Republican Legislative Decree No. 24 of 1992) which is still blocked in the House of Representatives for reasons that have to do with the sharia. In addition, the Government is currently waiting on a bill to replace the Labour Code;
وفي سبيل ذلك فقد قدمت الحكومة مشروعاً لتعديل القانون رقم 24 لسنة 1992 بشأن رعاية الأحداث لا يزال متعثراً أمام مجلس النواب لأسباب شرعية، كما أن الحكومة تنظر حالياً مشروعاً بديلاً لقانون العمل؛
