Pursuant to rule 15 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General wishes to report that he has received credentials signed on 20 July 2007 by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, stating that Mr. Leslie Kojo Christian has been appointed representative of Ghana on the Council as of 1 May 2007.

Nana Effah-Apenteng (Ghana) served as the Committee's Chairman for the first five months of 2007, while Leslie Kojo Christian (Ghana) served as Chairman for the last seven months of 2007; the delegation of Belgium served as the Committee's Vice-Chairman for the full reporting period (see S/2007/20 and S/2007/461).

Consequently, the Commission held the first meeting of its forty-eighth session on 13 February 2009, immediately following the closure of the forty-seventh session, and elected by acclamation Mr. Leslie Kojo Christian (Ghana) as Chairperson of the Commission and Mr. Miloslav Hetteš (Slovakia), Mr. Christian Sieber (Switzerland), Ms. Shoko Fujimoto (Japan) and Ms. Connie Taracena Secaira (Guatemala) as Vice-Chairpersons.
