Noting that security of tenure is critical for the majority of the world's people, who depend on land and land-based resources for their lives and livelihoods, the former Special Rapporteur on adequate housing recommended that studies be conducted in this regard, building on the work of organized peasant and indigenous peoples' movements (A/HRC/4/18, para. 31).
