6. Notes that the pool of language professionals at duty stations is uneven in terms of language combinations, and requests the Secretary-General to develop recruitment, subcontracting and outreach policies that take full account of these imbalances;

The third conference of universities that have signed memorandums of understanding with the United Nations, hosted in China by the Shanghai International Studies University in April 2013, provided an opportunity for all participants to further refine their common strategies in the training of language professionals.

It was hoped that increasing the provision of training in Africa would alleviate the problem of high vacancy rates for language professionals at the United Nations Office at Nairobi and the Economic Commission for Africa.
وأعرب عن أمله في أن تخفف زيادة توفير التدريب في أفريقيا من مشكلة ارتفاع معدلات الشواغر بين موظفي اللغات المتخصصين في مكتب الأمم المتحدة في نيروبي واللجنة الاقتصادية لأفريقيا.

Representatives from the universities, the United Nations system and various European institutions held fruitful discussions and agreed on a set of specific actions aimed at strengthening cooperation among the parties in order to find common solutions to issues related to the training of language professionals.
وأجرى ممثلون من تلك الجامعات ومنظومة الأمم المتحدة ومؤسسات أوروبية شتـى مناقشات مثمرة واتفقوا على مجموعة من الإجراءات المحددة التي ترمي إلى تعزيز التعاون فيما بين الأطراف لإيجاد حلول مشتركة للمسائل المتعلقة بتدريب المهنيين في مجال اللغات.

Based on these experiences, it is hoped that the new momentum gained through the establishment of agreements with academic institutions covering language curricula and training in respect of all official United Nations languages will contribute to reducing the gap between demand for and supply of language professionals in the medium term.
وانطلاقاً من هذه التجارب، من المأمول أن يُسهم الزخم الجديد الناشئ، بفضل إبرام اتفاقات مع المؤسسات الأكاديمية بشأن المناهج اللغوية والتدريب فيما يتعلق بجميع لغات الأمم المتحدة الرسمية، في رأب الهوّة التي تفصل بين الطلب والعرض فيما يتعلق بالمهنيين اللغويين في المدى المتوسط.

149. After consolidating all efforts to recruit high-quality language professionals, the organizations should give strong consideration to providing them with attractive incentives in terms of training and learning in their area of expertise.
149- وينبغي أن تولي المنظمات، بعد توحيد جميع الجهود المبذولة لتعيين مهنيين لغويين ذوي مهارات عالية، عناية شديدة لمنح هؤلاء المهنيين حوافز مغرية من حيث التدريب والتعلم في مجال خبرتهم.

The most skilled language professionals, who usually make commitments well in advance of actual dates of service, are not likely to be available in such cases.
ومن غير المحتمل في هذه الحالات أن تتوافر خدمات موظفي اللغات الفنيين اﻷكثر مهارة الذين يجري الاتفاق معهم عادة قبل المواعيد الفعلية للخدمات المطلوبة بوقت طويل.

63. A representative of the Secretariat said that in order to improve the vacancy rates, the chiefs of translation and interpretation services at Nairobi had gone to great lengths to reach out personally to language professionals.
