Further, the Commission encouraged States parties to consider limiting the extent of any reservations they lodged to the Convention, to formulate any reservations as precisely and narrowly as possible, to ensure that no reservation was incompatible with the object and purpose of the Convention, and to review regularly any reservations made in respect of the provisions of the Convention with a view to withdrawing them.

The World Conference on Human Rights encourages States to consider limiting the extent of any reservations they lodge to international human rights instruments, formulate any reservations as precisely and narrowly as possible, ensure that none is incompatible with the object and purpose of the relevant treaty and regularly review any reservations with a view to withdrawing them.68

And, in June 1993, the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action encouraged States to consider limiting the extent of any reservations they lodged to international human rights instruments, to formulate any reservations as precisely and narrowly as possible, to ensure that none is incompatible with the object and purpose of the relevant treaty and to regularly review any reservations with a view to withdrawing them.
