While under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea the management of living resources in the exclusive economic zone is the responsibility of a coastal State, the management of living resources of the high seas is a shared responsibility which can only be effectively discharged through cooperation among States, as is required by the Convention.
فبينما تنص اتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة لقانون البحار المعقودة في عام ١٩٨٢ على أن إدارة الموارد الحية في المنطقة الاقتصادية الخالصة هي مسؤولية الدولة الساحلية، فإن إدارة الموارد الحية في أعالي البحار هي مسؤولية مشتركة لا يمكن الوفاء بها على نحو فعال إلا من خلال التعاون فيما بين الدول، حسبما تقضي الاتفاقية.

50. The dispute settlement provisions herein shall not apply to disputes with coastal States relating to the sovereign rights of coastal States with respect to the living resources in their exclusive economic zones or the exercise of those rights and they do not affect in any way the provisions of Article 297 of the Convention.
٥٠ - لا تنطبق أحكام تسوية المنازعات المنصوص عليها في هذا على المنازعات مع الدول الساحلية المتصلة بالحقوق السيادية للدول الساحلية فيما يتعلق بالموارد الحية في مناطقها الاقتصادية الخالصة أو بممارستها لتلك الحقوق، ولا تمس بأي حال من اﻷحوال أحكام المادة ٢٩٧ من الاتفاقية.
