On instruction from my Government, I have the honour to transmit a letter dated 22 October 2007 from His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma to the Secretary-General on the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (see annex).

Furthermore, through resolution 1734 (2006), the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone.

UNMIL continued to provide security for the Special Court for Sierra Leone and has also taken over administrative and logistical support to the Court following the completion of the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL) on 30 September 2008.

25.1 The mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1620 (2005).

In the light of Security Council resolution 1719 (2006) which defines the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Burundi (BINUB), the United Nations system is encouraged to provide its support to the present Strategic Framework through the implementation of the mandate of BINUB and the United Nations Integrated Peace Consolidation Support Strategy in Burundi.

On 22 December, by resolution 1734 (2006), adopted unanimously, the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone until 31 December 2007.

The contribution of the United Nations to peacebuilding efforts in Burundi since 2007 has been based on priorities defined by the United Nations Development Assistance Framework in Burundi and Security Council resolutions 1719 (2006), 1791 (2007), 1858 (2008) and 1902 (2009), which together defined the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Burundi (BINUB).
