ودعا قرار اعتُمد في المؤتمر العام الذي عقدته الوكالة في عام 2001 إلى بذل الجهود لبحث التدابير والقواعد الدولية المتعلقة بالنقل البحري الدولي والمواد الإشعاعية والوقود المستهلك ومواصلة تحسينها.

ودعا المؤتمر العام إلى بذل جهود على الأصعدة الدولية والإقليمية والثنائية لدراسة التدابير واللوائح الدولية المتعلقة بالنقل البحري الدولي للمواد المشعة والوقود المستنفد وزيادة تحسينها، بما يتمشى مع القانون الدولي، وشدد على أهمية إنشاء آليات فعالة لتحديد المسؤولية.

In closing, he said that the 2005 Review Conference must achieve tangible results in the area of negative security assurances and must also give attention to the peaceful uses of atomic energy, in particular, the development of multilateral rules relating to the maritime transport of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, to protect the rights of coastal States.
68- وفي الختام، قال إن مؤتمر الاستعراض لعام 2005 يجب أن يحقق نتائج ملموسة في مجال الضمانات الأمنية السلبية كما يجب عليه أن يولي عنايته للاستخدامات السلمية للطاقة الذرية، وخاصة وضع قواعد متعددة الأطراف تتعلق بالنقل البحري للنفايات المشعة والوقود النووي المستهلك، وذلك لحماية حقوق الدول الساحلية.

48. In its resolution 61/222, the General Assembly reiterated paragraphs 45 and 46 of resolution 60/30 relating to the maritime transport of radioactive materials (see A/61/63, paras. 61-62 and 68).
