Parents' primary financial responsibilities towards their children are stated in article 27, along with the obligation of States to provide material assistance and support programmes in case of need.

States should assist parents and others responsible for the indigenous child to implement these rights by providing culturally appropriate material assistance and support programmes, particularly with regard to nutrition, clothing and housing.
