Following is the text of the statement, which was read by the Minister of Culture and Information and the Government's official spokesman, Ghazi Salah-Elddin, at a press conference Thursday, 19 August 1999:
وفيما يلي نص البيان الذي قرأه الدكتور غازي صلاح الدين، وزير الثقافة واﻹعلام والناطق الرسمي باسم الحكومة، وذلك في مؤتمر صحفي عقد يوم الخميس الموافق ١٩ آب/أغسطس ١٩٩٩:

1971—1972 Deputy Minister of Culture and Information

He was appointed a Cabinet minister three times between 1966 and 1988, first as Minister of Justice and majority leader in Parliament in 1966/67, then Minister of Culture and Information in 1987 and Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1987/88.

8. Upon his return to Iraq from the forty-first General Conference of IAEA, Iraq's Minister of Culture and Information made a serious effort in an attempt to locate any documents or additional information pertinent to this matter.
٨ - ولدى عودة وزير الثقافة واﻹعلام العراقي إلى العراق من المؤتمر العام الحادي واﻷربعين للوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية، بذل سيادته جهدا جادا للعثور على أي وثائق أو معلومات إضافية ذات صلة بهذا اﻷمر، ولم تسفر جهوده عن أي شيء جوهري.

The Minister of Culture and Information was asked the following question by a correspondent from the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustur: " How do you view Kuwait today? Is it still a part of Iraq?
فقد سُئل وزير الثقافة واﻹعلام من قبل مراسل صحيفة " الدستور " اﻷردنية السؤال التالي، وأقتبس: " كيف تنظرون إلى الكويت، اليوم، هل ما زالت جزءا من العراق ...

In the other interview, conducted by Sawt al-Sha'b, the Iraqi Minister of Culture and Information says, in a similar statement: " Why does Japan not forget its islands held by Russia? Why did Western Germany not forget East Germany?
