Recalling in this connection resolution 1994/24 of 26 August 1994 of the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities on the right to freedom of movement,
وإذ تشير في هذا الصدد إلى القرار ٤٩٩١/٤٢ الصادر في ٦٢ آب/أغسطس ٤٩٩١ عن اللجنة الفرعية لمنع التمييز وحماية اﻷقليات بشأن الحق في حرية التنقل،

Was there an organization which expressed the views of the Minorities on those questions, an organization which simply played an advisory role or an organization empowered to take decisions, as was the case in other countries where minorities existed?

A crucial prerequisite for this data collection to be initiated is the recognition by Governments of the very existence of Minorities on their territory.

The programme is aimed at assisting organizations and communities to which the fellows belong in protecting and promoting the rights of Minorities on the ground.

At the first two sessions information was provided on Minorities on the territory of various States and on the national provisions safeguarding not only the identity of the minorities but also the maintainance and development of their characteristics, such as their language, culture and religion.
