The normalization of the constitutional process led to the election of Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz as President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. He received 53 per cent of the votes during the first round of the elections held on 18 July and all national and international observers attested to the transparency and fairness of this election.
وتكلل مسلسل العودة بالبلاد إلى الحياة الدستورية الطبيعية بانتخاب السيد محمد ولد عبد العزيز رئيسا للجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية في الشوط الأول من الانتخابات الذي جرى يوم 18 تموز/يوليه الماضي بنسبة 52.54 في المائة باستحقاق رئاسي. وقد شهد المراقبون الدوليون والوطنيون بنزاهة وشفافية تلك الانتخابات.

The situations described in the national report confirmed the strong political will of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, to continue the Government's efforts to put an end to human rights violations, address unresolved humanitarian issues and overcome the legacy of slavery.
12- وأفاد الوفد بأن الوقائع المبينة في التقرير الوطني تؤكد الإرادة السياسية القوية التي تحدو سيادة رئيس الجمهورية محمد ولد عبد العزيز على مواصلة الجهود الرامية إلى وضع حد لانتهاكات حقوق الإنسان مثل مواجهة القضايا الإنسانية العالقة وآثار الاسترقاق.
