There is a serious risk that the situation of Muslims and Arabs following the events of 11 September 2001, because of the background to the events and their symbolism, might lead to long-term and far-reaching disruption of the international order if it is not dealt with urgently in accordance with international law, the ethics governing relations between peoples and the promotion of a genuine dialogue between civilizations.
56- إن حالة المسلمين والعرب بعد أحداث 11 أيلول/سبتمبر 2001، بحكم سياقها وبُعدها الرمزي تنطوي على مخاطر جمّة تهدد بقلب النظام الدولي رأساً على عقب ولأمد طويل إذا لم تُعالج فوراً وفقا للقانون الدولي ولأخلاقيات العلاقات بين الشعوب ولمبدأ تعزيز حوار فعلي بين الحضارات.

Welcoming also the report by the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on the situation of Muslims and Arabs in various parts of the world (E/CN.4/2006/17),
وإذ يرحب أيضاً بتقرير المقرر الخاص المعني بالأشكال المعاصرة للعنصرية والتمييز العنصري وكره الأجانب وما يتصل بذلك من تعصب حول وضع المسلمين والعرب في شتى بقاع العالم (E/CN.4/2006/17)،

In his previous reports, the Special Rapporteur, taking his lead from Commission on Human Rights resolutions 2004/6 and 2005/3, stressed the direct link between the tragic events of 11 September 2001 and the upsurge of acts and manifestations of violence and discrimination against Muslims and Arabs throughout the world.

5. As in previous reports, the Special Rapporteur draws the attention of Governments to the scarcity of reliable information at his disposal regarding racist or discriminatory acts against Muslims and Arabs around the world in the aftermath of the events of 11 September 2001.

71. The upsurge in intolerance following the events of 11 September 2001 was a worrying development, and it was regrettable that the fight against terrorism had been equated with Islam, manifesting itself in new forms of discrimination and xenophobia against Muslims and Arabs.
71 - وقالت إن زيادة التعصّب في أعقاب أحداث الحادي عشر من أيلول/سبتمبر 2001 تعَد تطوّراً مثيراً للقلق، ومن المؤسف أن الحرب ضد الإرهاب أصبحت في كفة واحدة مع الإسلام، وتتجلى في أشكال جديدة من التمييز وكراهية الأجانب ضد المسلمين والعرب.

Mr. Akram Zaki (Pakistan) said that the recent report of the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on the situation of Muslims and Arabs in various parts of the world (E/CN.4/2006/54) had noted with concern the legitimization of the racist and xenophobic ideology of extreme right-wing parties for political ends.

On that basis, Syria presented its position clearly and firmly at the meeting of the Jerusalem Committee that was convened in Morocco at the end of last month in support of the rights of Muslims and Arabs to full and uncompromised Palestinian sovereignty over Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
