1394. With regard to the Committee’s recommendation (A/49/41, para. 164), the Committee takes note that the State party has submitted a proposal to Congress to raise the minimum legal age for admission to employment from 12 to 14 years.

(10) The Committee takes note that the State party has acknowledged the persistence of female genital mutilation in some areas of the country, despite article 33, paragraph 6, of the Constitution which prohibits cultures, customs and traditions which are against the dignity, welfare or interest of women.
(10) وتحيط اللجنة علماً بأن الدولة الطرف قد اعترفت باستمرار ممارسة تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث في بعض مناطق البلد، رغم نص الفقرة 6 من المادة 33 من الدستور على حظر الثقافات والعادات والتقاليد التي تتعارض مع كرامة المرأة أو رفاهها أو مصلحتها.

In this regard, the Committee takes note that the State party has not yet ratified ILO Convention No. 2 (1919) concerning Unemployment.

The Committee may also wish to note that the State party created the Governance Unit headed by a Presidential Adviser on Governance within the Office of the President in October 2006; one of its task is to monitor Guyana's compliance with its treaty obligations and to bring all outstanding reports up to date with the UN and Inter-American human rights treaties Guyana has acceded to.
