Before concluding, my delegation would like to touch briefly upon the question of a separate Executive Board for UNFPA.

B. Establishment of a separate Executive Board for the

In paragraph 16.27 of its Programme of Action, the Conference invited the General Assembly to consider, at its forty-ninth session, in accordance with its resolution 48/162 of 20 December 1993, the establishment of a separate Executive Board for UNFPA.

These paragraphs recommend that the General Assembly, at its forty-ninth session, consider the question of a separate Executive Board for the United Nations Population Fund and that the Economic and Social Council, at its substantive session in 1995, review the respective roles of the bodies within the United Nations system that deal with population and development issues.

98. On the issue of a separate Executive Board for UNFPA, several delegations noted that the matter would be further discussed at the Economic and Social Council in June/July 1995.

Finally, on this specific issue, the creation of a separate Executive Board for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), especially in the light of its role in the follow-up to the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action, should be considered.
