40. At the 67th meeting, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee said that with respect to the question of revised estimates in connection with the decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of natural resources and energy, the Advisory Committee was recommending that, should the proposals be approved, the transfers between sections should take place as proposed by the Secretary-General.

10. At the 68th meeting, the representative of Austria, on the basis of informal consultations, introduced a draft resolution entitled " Decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of energy and natural resources " (A/C.5/48/L.73).

The question of decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of natural resources and energy is considered in paragraphs 9 and 10 of that report, and in paragraph 21 the Committee recommended to the General Assembly the adoption of draft resolution A/C.5/48/L.73.

With respect to the question of revised estimates in connection with the decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of natural resources and energy, the Advisory Committee was recommending that, should the proposals be approved, the transfers between sections should take place as proposed by the Secretary-General.

7. Ms. ROTHEISER (Austria) introduced draft resolution A/C.5/48/L.73, entitled " Decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of energy and natural resources " , and expressed the hope that it would be adopted without a vote.

9. The Fifth Committee considered the question of decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of natural resources and energy at its 67th and 68th meetings, on 13 and 21 June. It had before it the report of the Secretary-General (A/C.5/48/76).
٩ - نظرت اللجنة الخامسة في مسألة تطبيق اللامركزية على اﻷنشطة والموارد في ميداني الطاقة والموارد الطبيعية في جلستيها ٦٧ و ٦٨ المعقودتين في ١٣ و ٢١ حزيران/يونيه، وكان معروضا عليها تقرير اﻷمين العام (A/C.5/48/76).

At its forty-eighth session, the General Assembly, inter alia, requested the Secretary-General to keep the question of decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of energy and natural resources under review and to report thereon, in the light of views expressed by other relevant bodies, to the Committee for Programme and Coordination and to the Assembly at its fiftieth session (resolution 48/261).

Mr. TAKASU (Controller), introducing the report of the Secretary-General on the decentralization of activities and resources in the fields of natural resources and energy (A/C.5/48/76), said that the Secretary-General was interested in bringing the United Nations closer to Member States, and had established a task force to review the question of which Headquarters activities could be handled more efficiently by the regional commissions.
