117. Following the fall of Andulo and Bailundo, UNITA dismantled the formal mining and sales structures there, moving into a guerrilla phase and using previously prepared underground routes for trading diamonds, in neighbouring countries.

In this regard, it seems the allegations implicating Bulgaria are based entirely on the confessions of defectors like General Bandua, an unnamed " director of the control tower of Andulo airport " and the interrogation of a captured UNITA officer who recollects that " boxes of ammunition and other material delivered to Andulo had Bulgarian markings " .

185. The Antwerp-based diamond company referred to below has similar links and raises the question whether UNITA has been trading diamonds through Kisangani since the fall of Andulo in October 1999, or alternatively was simply responsible for introducing the diamond companies willing to work with rebels to RCD and its allies Uganda and Rwanda.
