The European Union appreciated the involvement of programme managers in achieving cost reductions and conducting efficiency reviews, and trusted that the Secretary-General would take an integrated approach, and that he would report, at the fifty-first session, on the impact of approved savings and other possible measures.

Finally, she had still not received a clear reply from the Secretariat as to when it intended to issue the programme performance report on the impact of approved savings measures on the implementation of mandated programmes and activities, as stipulated in Part II, paragraph 11, of General Assembly resolution 50/214.

21. Ms. RODRÍGUEZ ABASCAL (Cuba) noting that the programme performance report on the impact of approved savings measures had been requested at the fiftieth and fifty-first sessions of the General Assembly, said that the Secretariat should explain why the document had not been prepared.

It was a matter of priority for the Group of 77 and China to address the shortfalls reflected in the Secretary-General's report on the impact of approved savings measures on the implementation of mandated programmes and activities (A/C.5/51/53) during consideration of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 1998-1999.
