57. By its decision 22/COP.2, the COP decided to consider at its third session the establishment of an open-ended ad hoc group to examine and make recommendations on the issues of arbitration and conciliation procedures, taking into account the document prepared by the secretariat.

With regard to the development of arbitration and conciliation procedures, the AHGE concluded that the design and content of arbitration and conciliation procedures under multilateral environmental agreements were well precedented and uncontroversial; the task of developing such procedures was essentially a technical one.
5- وفيما يتعلق بوضع إجراءات التحكيم والتوفيق، خلص فريق الخبراء المخصص إلى أن كيفية وضع إجراءات التحكيم والتوفيق ومضمونها بمقتضى أحكام الاتفاقات البيئية المتعددة الأطراف قد حددا بدقة في صكوك قانونية سابقة ولا مجال للجدال بشأنهما، وأن مهمة وضع هذه الإجراءات هي مهمة فنية بصفة جوهرية.

The Commission, at its thirty-third session, in 2000, commended the work accomplished so far by the Working Group and heard various observations according to which work on the items on the agenda of the Working Group was timely and necessary in order to foster the legal certainty and predictability in the use of arbitration and conciliation in international trade.

The Commission expressed its appreciation to the panellists for their statements and endorsed their views about the role of UNCITRAL and its instruments in the area of arbitration and conciliation in the promotion of the rule of law and the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
