2. Since the requests contained in paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of the draft resolution could be implemented only after the amendment of paragraph 13 of article VIII of the statute of UNITAR, it would be appropriate to structure the draft resolution so that the substance of operative paragraph 5 precedes paragraphs 2, 3 and 4.

33. In this connection, the General Assembly may request the Secretary-General to amend, after consultation with the Board of Trustees of UNITAR, paragraph 2 of article VIII of the statute of UNITAR, to include a subvention from the regular budget.

In accordance with the provisions of paragraph 3 of article VIII of the statute of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), 1/ the recommendation by the Board of Trustees of the Institute that the current subvention of $220,000 from the regular budget of the United Nations be retained for 1996, is hereby transmitted to the General Assembly for approval.

1.
