٢٨ - واستمرت العملية التي بدأتها اتفاقات السلام بين حكومة السلفادور وجبهة فارابوندو مارتي للتحرير الوطني في الحفاظ على زخمها، وساهمت في تحول البلاد من مجتمع عنيف مغلق الى بلد يجري فيه توطيد النظام الديمقراطي وسيادة القانون واحترام حقوق اﻹنسان.

By its resolution 729 (1992) of 14 January 1992, the Security Council approved the above-mentioned report of the Secretary-General and decided to enlarge the mandate of ONUSAL to include the verification and monitoring of the implementation of all the agreements to be signed at Mexico City between the Government of El Salvador and FMLN.

This provision is rooted in the conviction of both the Government of El Salvador and FMLN that international verification of the enjoyment of human rights in El Salvador should not be limited to mere observation but should promote and influence changes in the structural, legal, institutional and social conditions that had led to widespread serious violations during the armed conflict.
