II. The challenges of global financial integration

9. Recalls that, in the context of global financial integration, further efforts have to be made, at both the national and international levels, to strengthen international economic cooperation;

Several speakers have reminded us of the contribution – that is to say, the benefits – of global financial integration to Asia’s overall economic success and to the reduction in poverty over the past few decades; but there are also long-term risks – the risk of marginalization, the risk that some countries or individuals may be left behind.
وقد نبهنا عدة من المتكلمين الى إسهام التكامل المالي العالمي - أي فوائده - في النجاح الاقتصادي الشامل ﻵسيا وفي الحد من وطأة الفقر في العقود القليلة الماضية؛ ولكن هناك أيضا مخاطر طويلة اﻷجل - خطر التهميش، أي خطر تخلف بعض البلدان أو اﻷفراد عن الركب.

10. Invites the Bretton Woods institutions to strengthen their cooperation with the United Nations Secretariat on issues falling within their respective competencies, such as multilateral external debt, challenges and opportunities of global financial integration and financing for development;

101. The most recent example of the deepening collaboration was the first high-level meeting of the Council proximate to the meetings of the Interim and Development Committees in April 1998 on the theme of global financial integration and development.
