In the light of those communications, UNEP Chemicals raised the issue with the secretariat of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and subsequently submitted an information document to Conference of the Parties of that Convention at its eighth meeting.

45. SBC has undertaken the update of the Compilation of the Provisions of National Legislation related to the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and to the Environmentally Sound Management of Hazardous Wastes, as well as assisted several Parties in developing their national and/or domestic legislation.
٤٥ - قامت أمانة اتفاقية بازل بتحديث جمع أحكام التشريع الوطني المتعلق بمراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وبالتخلص منها وباﻹدارة السليمة بيئيا للنفايات الخطرة، وساعدت كذلك عدة أطراف في وضع تشريعاتها الوطنية و/أو المحلية.

1. Approves the application form for admission as an observer at meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and, as appropriate, its subsidiary bodies, set out in the annex to the present decision;
1 - يُقِر نموذج طلب القبول بصفة مراقب لحضور اجتماعات مؤتمر الأطراف في اتفاقية بازل للتحكُّم في نقل النفايات الخطرة والتخلُّص منها عبر الحدود، وحسب الاقتضاء، في هيئاته الفرعية، المبيَّنة في مرفق هذا المقرر؛

In practice, this may introduce restrictions on hazardous waste shipment under the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and this should be consulted separately.

Rates of reporting under the Basel Convention are low; only one country in the region has ratified the Protocol on Liability and Compensation for Damage resulting from Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, and few countries have ratified the Ban Amendment of the Basel Convention.

In addition, decision VI/14 contains a request to the Secretariat to continue working on gathering information related to the number of incidents arising from transboundary movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and, with regard to each incident, the extent to which damage was not compensated by the current mechanism.

39. The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and other waste-related international instruments are of particular importance for waste as well as for chemicals management.
39 - وتمثل اتفاقية بازل بشأن التحكم في نقل النفايات الخطرة والتخلص منها عبر الحدود، والصكوك الدولية الأخرى ذات الصلة، أهمية خاصة بالنسبة لمسألتي النفايات والمواد الكيميائية.

(b) To consider possible linkages to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and other international treaties as appropriate regarding the issue of disposal;

Recognizing also the activities of the World Health Organization in the protection of human health related to mercury and the roles of relevant multilateral environmental agreements, especially the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade,

Other important global conventions of significance and importance to the Arab Region are the Vienna Convention on the Protection of the Ozone Layer (Ozone) and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MP), the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and the MARPOL 73/78 Convention.
أما الاتفاقيات العالمية الأخرى ذات المغزى والأهمية للمنطقة العربية فهي اتفاقية فيينا لحماية طبقة الأوزون وبروتوكول مونتريال بشأن المواد المستنفدة لطبقة الأوزون، واتفاقية بازل المتعلقة بمراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود والتخلص منها واتفاقية ماربول 73/78.

3. The Conference of the Parties shall adopt guidelines on the environmentally sound interim storage of such mercury and mercury compounds, taking into account any relevant guidelines developed under the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and other relevant guidance.
3 - يعتمد مؤتمر الأطراف مبادئ توجيهية بشأن التخزين المؤقت السليم بيئياً للزئبق ومركّبات الزئبق، آخذاً في الاعتبار أي مبادئ توجيهية ذات صلة توضَع بموجب اتفاقية بازل بشأن التحكُّم في نقل النفايات الخطرة والتخلّص منها عبر الحدود وأي توجيه آخر ذي صلة.
