Supporting this viewpoint, the Special Rapporteur on the right to education in her first report stated that " working towards standardization of educational terminology and statistics on the basis of the right to education will constitute an important part of her work with the aim of developing strategies and indicators for the realization of the right to education " .

The growth of rightsbased strategies in international development cooperation constitutes a welcome novelty, and developments in the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden are highlighted in Section IV. The Special Rapporteur has made it an important part of her work to facilitate the use of human rights standards in development cooperation, including those aiming at gender equality.

Regional consultations had become an integral component of her work and she encouraged civil society actors to initiate similar meetings in other regions. She had also participated in numerous meetings organized by States and civil society concerning her mandate.
