On 13 December 2007, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, jointly with the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants and the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, sent an urgent appeal concerning the detention and deportation of a large number of migrants.

Mexico welcomed the cooperation of Qatar with international human rights protection mechanisms, including its withdrawal of reservations to the Convention against Torture, the recent visits by the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants and the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, and the amendment of the Criminal Code to include a definition of torture.
